Description

38 participants in three age categories declared their participation. Everyone, even from cities as far away from Katowice as Koszalin, Zgorzelec, Białystok, Łódź, Płock and Gostynin, did well. For this, we would like to thank the parents, guardians, teachers and, of course, the participants themselves. In the unanimous opinion of the listeners, all performances were good and very good.

Solo presentations of participants took place in three age groups:

  • 1st Group – for those born in 2003 and later
  • 2nd Group – for those born in 2001-2002
  • 3rd Group – for those born in 1999-2000

Program:

  • 1st Group – miniatures solo or with piano accompaniment, the total duration of which may not exceed 3 minutes
  • 2nd Group – miniatures solo or with piano accompaniment, the total duration of which may not exceed 5 minutes
  • 3rd Group – miniatures solo or with piano accompaniment, the total duration of which may not exceed 7 minutes

After the auditions, the little artists were invited for a meal in the form of a drink and a sandwich, as well as a delicious cake, which was served to them by the Król cake shop from Katowice. Then there was a tour of the Academy, which, due to the limited time, allowed to present only a few of its places. So there was the Museum of Organs, guided by prof. Julian Gembalski, a library whose nooks and collections were presented by the director, mgr Iwona Bias, Senior Qualified Custodian. At the end of the tour around the Academy, little horn players, their parents, guardians and teachers admired the new Concert Hall, built in 2007.

At 3:00 p.m., the concert began with the participation of:

  • Silesian Horn Quartet composed of: Leszek Salwa, Jerzy Ślęzak, Waldemar Matera and Grzegorz Grzegorzek
  • The Little French Horn Quartet composed of: Michał Mocek, Szymon Ślęczka, Krystian Parada and Oliver Pelc
  • French Horn Quartet of the PSM in Strzelce Opolskie composed of: Adam Goczoł, Jan Malcherczyk, Franciszek Czech and Szymon Krupa
  • Edyta Chmielewska from POSM in Bielsko Biała
  • Michał Kanawka from the Academy of Music in Katowice.

Special applause was received by the Horn Choir of Small Horn Players, who in their concert conducted by Jerzy Ślęzak, MA, performed, among others, the popular Kazaczok on 41 French horns – the strength of the little ones was strengthened by three slightly older friends.

Akademia Małego Waltornisty 2012

According to the pedagogues, such good performances, apart from the talent and skills of the Participants, were helped by the adopted formula of the festival, the aim of which was primarily to present the abilities of young instrumentalists and not their assessment, classification, etc. Thus, the little horn players showed their best, playing freely, loosely, without the pressure. We are very happy that the event met the expectations of the people participating in it.

The Silesian Horn Quartet, existing since 1993, owes its outstanding achievements in instrumental craftsmanship to its many-sided musical qualifications combined with artistic sensitivity. The nobility of the sound and the developed playing technique arouses admiration. The band started its activity with the following members: Antoni Słota – long-time horn player of the Silesian Philharmonic, Stefan Grzegorzek – long-time horn player of the Silesian Philharmonic, Joachim Nowak – currently the first horn player of the Silesian Philharmonic and creator of many arrangements for the Silesian Horn Quartet, and Jerzy Ślęzak.

The current line-up of the ensemble consists of four artists of the Silesian Philharmonic, graduates of the Academy of Music in Katowice:

  • Gregory Grzegorzek

Members of the quartet also cooperate with other orchestras such as: Polish Chamber Philharmonic, Silesian Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonietta Cracovia, Polish Radio Orchestra, Bielsko Festival Orchestra, Silesian Opera, Rybnik Philharmonic and many others.
